On This Date in! in 1990, the US Midwest prepared for a massive earthquake that was predicted to happen by American climatologist and author Iben Browning, who held 90 patents and had authored four books, one of which was on climate change. He predicted that an earthquake would be triggered by the New Madrid fault on December 2 to December 3 and would cause historic damage in the American Midwest. It didn’t happen. American psychic Sylvia Browne gloated that it didn’t take multiple science degrees for her to be wrong in her predictions, just a fifth of jack and an old typewriter that had the letter ‘q’ missing.
