December 10, 1906

On This Date in! in 1906, US President Theodore Roosevelt became the first American to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for helping mediate an end to the Russo-Japanese War. The Japanese and Russian governments stated they didn’t have a choice, as that crazy, bespectacled American rushed into their treaty negotiations swinging a large stick and screaming at the top of his lungs, “THIS IS THE QUIETEST I’MA GOING TO TALK TO YOU SONS-OF-BITCHES! SIGN THE BE-DAMNED TREATY OR EAT THE STICK YOU BASTARDS!” The Russians and Japanese quickly signed the papers and the war was peacefully mediated.
