On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! 1978, Billy Martin was fired as the manager of the New York Yankees baseball team. Owner George Steinbrenner so enjoyed it, that he hired Billy four more times over the next 10 years (1979, 1983, 1985, and 1988), just so he could fire him again and again. Martin was preparing to be rehired by Steinbrenner for the 1990 season, but died in December 1989 before he could be hired to manage the Yankees for the 1990 season.

About Joel Byers

Has the ability to see the funny and absurd in most things and will always remark on it, even if it means getting the stink-eye from his victims.

  1. Zombie Billy Martin says:

He was actually going to offer me the job again in 1990 anyway, but as a result of an unfortunate incident during a lunch meeting (which may, or may not, have involved brains), he ended up firing me before he’d even hired me.
