On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 193 AD, the Roman emperor, Marcus Didius, was murdered in his palace. This was not an uncommon occurrence and all new Roman emperors were notified that there was a 78% likelihood of being murdered while emperor as one of the risks of the job. Amazingly, very few prospective emperors turned the job down even after learning of the risks. Most scholars believed this was due to the perks of the job, such as eating and drinking what you want when you wanted, having absolute authority over everyone else in the Roman Empire as long as you stayed alive, and the orgies. The scholars (who all happened to be men) all agreed that the orgies probably were the chief selling point about becoming emperor.
