June 2, 1930

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1930, Mrs. M. Niezes of Panama gave birth to the first baby to be born on a ship while passing through the Panama Canal. This was the first instance of a baby passing through the birth canal at the same time as it was going through the Panama Canal. When Mrs. Niezes husband, Nigel, informed her of this unique honor during the worst of her birthing contractions, she was able to grab him by the throat and squeezed until he passed out from the lack of oxygen. Mrs. Niezes, Mr. Niezes and the infant boy Niezes all survived the birth and Mr. Niezes made sure that at all future births, he maintained a healthy distance of 20 feet from his wife’s bed.
