On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY! in 1789, Benjamin Franklin wrote a letter to a friend in which he said, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes and the ability of a woman to misconstrue the most innocent of comments and turn it into a relationship ending event.” It later became known that Mr. Franklin had observed his house-maid as she bent over and picked a button off the floor and innocently informed her that her bottom was almost as shapely as her mother’s, which also explained Mr. Franklin’s blackened eye at that time.
