On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1841, the state of Alabama enacted the first legislation that regulated dental practices in the U.S., and required state medical boards to administer examination and issue licenses using the same rules and restrictions as medical licenses. But there were no laws that required the citizens of Alabama to avail themselves of a dentist and the reader is reminded that blood-letting and leeches were widely accepted medical practices at the time, as was phrenology and the acceptance of phlogiston.
