June 2, 1851

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1851 – Maine became the first U.S. state to enact a law that prohibited alcohol. The state of New Hampshire and the country Canada quickly set up businesses and stores just across the state borders to sell alcohol to Maine’s citizens and made literally, thousands and thousands of dollars.
