On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1993, Russian scientists unfurled a giant mirror in orbit and flashed a beam of sunlight across Europe during the night. Evil scientists and their minions worldwide waited up all night to witness this historical display. Observers saw it only as a momentary flash and no hapless, unwary innocent civilians were disintegrated. The evil scientists and their fans went to bed disappointed.

    I have nothing against my evil Russian colleagues, but there are several aspects of this whole giant mirror thing that I find questionable at best.

    First, I shall address the elephant in the room: How evil can it really be, if no hapless, unwary innocent civilians were disintegrated? Can you really call that an evil scheme? Furthermore, can you even call yourself an evil scientist? I think not.

    Now, admittedly, there are those who protest that there were probably at least a few people who were mildly inconvenienced by the sudden sunlight in the middle of the night (and, I suppose, if they just happened to be looking at exactly the right angle, at exactly the right time, someone could, theoretically, have been temporarily blinded), but is that sufficient to qualify as “evil”? Surely not!

    In closing, I would also pose one other small question. How exactly does one “unfurl” a giant mirror anyway? I have had more than one nefarious plan that involved giant mirrors, of one sort or another, and not one of them (to my recollection) as been, in any way, unfurlable (or, for that matter, furlable in the first place). Please, if you will, enlighten me as to what this entails and how it would actually be done.
