October 24, 1788

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY! in 1788, future poet Sarah Joseph Hale was born. She wrote “Mary Had A Little Lamb.” Her first incarnation titled “Marty Knew A Little Lamb” went something like this;

“Marty knew a little lamb, Who smiled with love and joy,
But Marty loved gin
And forced her to stand on a corner and bat her eyelashes at every passing boy.”

The first draft was rejected as being a tad bit dark for a children’s book.
