On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1910 the U.S. Bureau of Mines was authorized by the U.S. Congress. Two years later, the U.S. Bureau of Mimes was authorized after the tragic incident in Philadelphia on June 23, 1911 when 23 street mimes found themselves trapped in the same invisible box and starved to death before anyone thought to let them out. The Philadelphian police stated that they didn’t act sooner as they weren’t sure anything was wrong, particularly since the mimes never asked for help, they just made these silly hand gestures.
