On This Date in! in 1982, US scientists returned from Antarctica with the fossils of the first land mammals discovered there. Dr. William Dyer III explained that while the fossils found were considered a huge success, he thought there was a more promising area at the Leng Plateau that he believed would have a significant chance of producing more and new fossil discoveries. Dyer stated his intentions to return later with a scientific team funded by Miskatonic University.
