March 2, 1789

On This Date in! in 1789, Pennsylvania ended the prohibition of theatrical performances. Prior to this date, it was illegal to put on any kind of play (including that sinful wag Shakespeare) in Pennsylvania as the good Christians in charge of the government deemed them illicit and that they would lead to worship of someone other than God.
