On This Date in! in 1997 Sister Nirmala was chosen by India’s Missionaries of Charity to succeed the deceased Mother Teresa as leader of the Catholic order. The competition to succeed Mother Teresa was fierce and hard fought as Sister Juggs won the bathing suit competition and Sister Speed dominated the talent competition with her exhibition of stunt driving, but Sister Nirmala’s question and answer session sealed her win as she explained that the Missionaries of Charity would continue to do the work that Mother Teresa had started, while when Sister Juggs was asked who Confucius was she said, “Confucius was one of whom invented confusion, and that’s why, eh…one of the most ancient, he was one of the Chinese. Japanese who was one of the most ancient. Thank you!”
