July 12, 1843

On July 12, 1843, 37-year old Mormon leader Joseph Smith declared that God allowed polygamy. But only when it was one man with several wives. If it was a wife with multiple husbands, that was distasteful, unless the other husband happened to be Joseph Smith, then it was okay. So, in the old Mormon faith, one man, several wives good, one woman, multiple husbands, bad, unless one of the later husbands was Joseph Smith or a church leader. Isn’t it amazing what some people will do if they think it will get them into heaven, or laid.
