January 9, 1793

On January 9, 1793, Frenchman, Jean Pierre Blanchard made the first balloon flight in North America. Aeronaut Blanchard lifted off from the Walnut Street Prison in Philadephia, setting the stage for future prison breaks in books and movies, and floated over the Pennsylvania countryside. Coincidentally, this is also the first semi-documented UFO sightings made over the Pennsylvania countryside. Farmhand, Johann Grueber of Single Knut Unincorporated, Pennsylvania was quoted as saying, “Didn’t know what that big ol’ floating thing was, but it shore cussed liked a Frenchman when I shot two musket balls at it.” Years later, when Giorgio Tsoukalos was asked about aliens knowing how to cuss in French, he ran his fingers through his strangely coiffed hair and said, “C’est putain possible.”
