On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1878, in New York City, milk was delivered in glass bottles for the first time by Alexander Campbell, effectively putting an end to the practice of milk farmers having to walk their cows up and down the streets hawking their wares. The familiar, “Come and get it warm straight off the cow! Pick your own udder!” would soon be muted and the general populace quickly accepted the convenience of home delivery.
