On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1939 the word “dord” was discovered lurking in the ‘New International Dictionary’. The word was a huge embarrassment for the G and C Merriam Company as dord was not actually a word, it was a typo. The entry was meant to read “D or d” as an abbreviation for density. It was also found that dord was first included in 1934 edition, so it had a run of 5 years before it was discovered.
