On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1930, the first red and green traffic lights were installed in New York City, following the lead of Detroit in 1920. Red-green colorblind drivers were left to guess when to go, as there were no uniform standard of order for the red, yellow, and green lights. This would later come about through trial and error and many, many car crashes at intersections, as it became known that the red-green color blindness was the most common of the human race.
