On THIS DATE IN HISTORY in 1988 Secretary of State George Shultz narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Laz Paz, Bolivia, when a bomb exploded in the middle of his motorcade. Cocaine traffickers were blamed and when the driver of the lead car, Hans G. Shultz, was questioned, he’d only replied “I know nothink – NOTHINK!” and then screamed for an unknown accomplice named Hogan to rescue him.
