August 28, 1884

On this date in in 1884 the 1st known photograph of a tornado was made near Howard, South Dakota. This was at the same time and area that semi-famous balloonist Dorian Francis Gale disappeared while testing his new high altitude balloon and wasn’t heard from again until he was discovered confused and hallucinating in a wheat field just outside Aberdeen, South Dakota by Frank L. Baum.

  1. Dorian Francis Gale says:

What I want to know is why I was wearing a dress? Baum said I was wearing it when he found me, but I’m not so sure…

As a noted historian (albeit of the “twisted” variety), perhaps you can shed some light on this mystery. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
