On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com in 1998 Canada’s Supreme Court announced that Quebec could not secede without first obtaining the federal government’s consent. The rest of Canada quickly informed the French Canadians they could emigrate to France any time they wanted if they didn’t want to be a part of Canada. When France learned of this, it sent official word to Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien and said, “Non, ils ne peuvent pas putain!”
