April 22, 1970

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com in 1970, the first Earth Day was held in the United States and organized by US Senator Gaylord Nelson. It was established as a day to learn about and how to preserve and protect the Earth from overuse and pollution. It has been held on April 22 ever since. Also, on this day, the Flat Earth Society decided to have a “Flat Earth” day as it wanted to use the same day to explain why the Earth is flat and the Space programs of NASA and Russia were a huge hoax. Samuel Shenton, the president of the Flat Earth Society said that the Round Earthers were controlled by the corporations were fooling the people of the world for the money. When asked, “What money?”, he’d just reply, “Exactly.” There have been no subsequent Flat Earth days celebrated.
