On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com in 1987 New Yorker Richard Wilbur was appointed as Poet Laureate of the United States. This was quite the upset pick as Tyrone Greene of New Jersey was the favorite with his heartfelt poem, “Kill My Landlord”. When Mr. Greene was interviewed about his not receiving the Poet Laureate, he replied that he was working on a new poem titled, “I’m Gonna Shiv That Dick Wilbur” and that in 8 to 10 years with good behavior he’d probably be able to finish his research into his new poem.
