On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com in 1976 the US Federal Reserve re-introduced the $2 bill back into the American wild as part of the bicentennial celebration. The original $2 bill almost died out in 1966 when the monetary unit was discontinued, but enough of the bills were preserved in the mattresses of grandparents and in the vaults of collectors to find a viable mating pair and bring this majestic animal back from the brink of extinction.
