On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1974 the first intentional interstellar radio message was sent by the Arecibo telescope towards M41, a cluster of stars some 25,000 light years away. Thirty years later in 2004 the text of the message was finally released to the general public and read as follows:

When this note arrives
We hope it is a good surprise
As we do adore
The nearness of your planet’s door
Burma-Shave!
