May 9, 1671

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com in 1671 Thomas “Captain” Blood attempted to steal the crown jewels from the Tower of London. Thomas Blood and his accomplices had the Crown Jewels in their possession when they were nicked at the gate by the guards. Instead of getting a rope necktie, the Irishman, Blood, was able to not only talk the King of England out of executing him, but gave him some land and a salary to boot.
