On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1660 Charles II was restored to the English throne after the short lived Puritan Commonwealth. The people of England decided that a life of Puritan values as the law of the land was a true living hell and kicked them the hell out of office. Charles II was welcomed back and drinking and dancing was de-illegalized. As a side note, many Puritans finally decided to take the path of the Mayflower 40 years earlier and left England and settled in America, determined to remake the new Continent over into their idea of the ‘promised land’. The Salem Witch Trials happened sooner than expected in 1692. The over/under for the first Mass Murdering by religionist nuts leaving England after the Restoration of the Monarchy was 40 years.
