On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1992 U.S. Vice President Dan Quayle criticized the CBS sitcom “Murphy Brown” for having its title character decide to bear a child out of wedlock. He wrote “It is disappointing that CBS woulde allow Ms. Murphy Browne to have a childe and choose to do so without a father. That baby deserves to knowe who his daddye really is.” When it was explained that it was just a TV show and that the character Murphy Brown was played by actress Candice Bergen and that she wasn’t really pregnant or having a baby, Quayle replied, “Or you sure? I see her every Monday night on the TV.”
