On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1792 the French Legislative Assembly approved the use of the guillotine as a quick and humane method of dealing with convicted murders, rapists, and kidnappers. It was stated that the guillotine would be used as a means of last resort and that it was believed that only 200 to 300 criminals a year would be executed in this manner. From 1793 to 1794, 17,000 men, women, and children were fed to the guillotine during the French ‘Reign of Terror’.
