June 29, 1940

On June 29, 1940, New York mobsters assassinated the acrobatic highwire act, the Flying Graysons. The husband and wife team, ‘The Graysons’ were the main draw of Haly’s Circus and their trapeze act was sabotaged by a young and on-the-rise mobster, Anthony Zucco. He did it because circus owner, C.C. Haly wouldn’t pay protection money. Young Dick Grayson was left an orphan.
