July 8th, 1881

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1881 Edward Berner, a druggist in Two Rivers, WI poured chocolate syrup on ice cream in a dish. Until this date chocolate syrup had only been used for making ice-cream sodas. Druggists and soda-jerks everywhere told him that the human taste-buds wouldn’t be able to handle the intense flavor and that he might cause the first case of extreme flavor induced sensory brain shutdown, but Mr. Berner followed his dream and young Billy Hamilton of Two Rivers Wisconsin ate and enjoyed the first vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup drizzled over its top. Young Mr. Hamilton survived and the rest was ice cream history.
