On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1922 the first duck-billed platypus arrived in America, directly from Australia. It was exhibited at the Bronx Zoo in New York City. Native New Yorkers, long used to the shenanigans of PT Barnum and others of his ilk, refused at first to believe it was a real animal. They thought it was a beaver that had a duck’s bill surgically attached.
