January 13, 1998

On January 13, 1998, one of the 110 missing early episodes of “Doctor Who” was uncovered in New Zealand. This was a huge deal in the Nerd community. It was similar to finding a pristine Mickey Mantle rookie baseball card or an X-Men #94 that had been placed in the obligatory plastic cover and kept in a humidity-free safe. It was like finding a Jackson Pollack painting in an Arizona garage or a Ming Vase in a London attic. It was completely unexpected that such treasures would be found in the unlikeliest of places.

About Joel Byers

Born in North Georgia and educated at some very fine public institutions. Real education started after graduating from college and then getting married and raising two boys. Has the ability to see the funny and absurd in most things and will always remark on it, even if it means getting the stink-eye from his victims.
