February 16, 600 AD

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 600 AD Pope Gregory the Great decreed that when a person sneezed, the only correct response was to say “God Bless You” as quickly as possible. This was to keep the sneezer’s soul from escaping. Some people tried saying “Blessed be You” and “May the Un-named God of Your Choice Give Blessings or With-hold Blessings Upon You, Depending on His, Her, or Its Decision”. These people were burned at the stakes as (1) the first group were obviously NOT Christians and (2) the second group were obviously attorneys.
