On December 9, 1994, US Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders was forced to resign after when she was asked if it might be possible to reduce the spread of AIDS through a more explicit discussion of masturbation, she said, “I think that is something that is a part of human sexuality and it’s part of something that should be taught.” Yes, conservative Christian groups and Republicans were upset that an educated black woman, who was also a doctor, would even suggest that masturbation exists and that factual information would be beneficial to counteract all the false information being spread. President Clinton was forced to fire her. Instead of telling young people that it’s natural and you won’t grow hair on the palms of your hands, Church groups wanted teenagers to be taught that it’s yucky, you’ll go blind, it’ll turn you into a sexual deviant, God will punish you, and it will make your junk shrink.
I would think it would be preferable for young humans to rub their own bits, instead of rubbing them against other human’s and possibly getting pregnant or catching a disease. Although, perhaps the Surgeon General should've recommended Sharing Twisted-History as a less controversial alternative.
