On THIS DAY IN TWISTED-HISTORY in 1957, Richie Ashburn of the Philadelphia Phillies hit a foul ball that careened into the stands and broke the nose of Phillie Fan, Alice Roth. During the same at bat, Richie hit another foul ball that flew into the stands and struck Alice again as she was being carried out on a stretcher. Her husband Hershel Roth was quoted as saying how remarkable the day had turned out. He’d got a souvenir baseball and his wife had been struck in the face with a ball for the first time in six years.
