On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1939, King Zog I of Albania fled the invading Italian Army and went into exile in England, taking with them large stores of gold. Zog and his family understood very well how gold could ease the transition from active royalty to royalty in exile so they made sure to take a lot with them. Zog was also encourage to have commoners forgo the traditional Zog greeting of shouting “Kneel and swear eternal loyalty to King Zog!”
