April 3, 1933

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1933, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt informed newspaper reporters that 3.2 percent beer would be served at the White House following President Roosevelt’s signing into law the 3.2 beer law that repealed the Volsted Act. While this did not officially end Prohibition (that would happen on December 5, 1933 with the ratification of the 21st Amendment), but it let the country know it was going to happen.

Remember it was Ben Franklin who said, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Okay, he really said that about wine, but beer and whiskey can be interchanged into that quote and we still get the meaning.
