On April 18, 1985, Tulane University finally had to admit that it had a problem and decided the only cure was to excise the cancer away. It abolished its 72 year-old basketball program. The reason was that there were charges of fixed games, drug abuse and payments to players. Those who bet it would be the basketball program netted a cool $4 off a $1 bet, as most people thought it would be the football program getting the axe.
