April 17, 1810

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1810 pineapple cheese was patented by Lewis M. Norton. It’s not what you think and it’s not what I originally thought as I screamed “OH GOD NO! Cheese made from pineapples! Not in MY United States of America!” But after a little research I found that Lewis M. Norton of West Goshen, Ct., was making regular cheese that was shaped like a pineapple. He’d go through the cheese making process (which always involves a happy cow) and press the fresh cheese into pineapple shaped molds. People went nuts over it and bought them by the hundreds, which was a lot back in them days. So, the pet rock of the 1810’s was pineapple cheese. At least you could eat the cheese, all I could ever teach my pet rock to do was sit and play dead.
