On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1789, the Reverand Elijah Craig was recognized for distilling the first bourbon. It is believed that the reverend was the first person to distill whiskey from maize and the drink was called bourbon because he lived in Bourbon County, Kentucky.

The state of New Hampshire and the country Canada quickly set up businesses and stores just across the state borders to sell alcohol to Maine’s citizens and made literally, thousands and thousands of dollars.
