April 12, 1606

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1606, after the sixteenth vote, England adopted the original Union Jack as its flag. Several well-meaning and strong candidates were rejected by the monarchy and populace. Some of the rejected flags included the French Boy Fanny Fanciers, Anarchy Now, The King’s a Sot, and Why In The Hell Is a German Our King. These flags were not among the strong candidates but were submitted by Edward Strongarm Hennison of Liverpool, a very vocal anti-Monarchist. The English government at that time would have liked to say that Mr. Hennison quietly disappeared from history after the Union Jack was approved, but he didn’t. He kicked and bloody fought his way to the gallows, spitting and screaming that everything was a conspiracy being manipulated by the Bavarian Illuminati. English gallows crowds at that time were very appreciative of an entertaining madman who had the wit and volume to get their last message across and gave Mr. Hennison four out of five stars for his last speech.
