On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1457 the Gutenberg Bible became the first printed book. Booksellers of that time claimed that the printed book was a passing fad and doomed to quickly fade out, as established and accomplished readers preferred a handwritten book penned by a master scribe with hand-drawn illustrations by the top artists of the day. Besides, the booksellers claimed that for a printed book to be profitable, there would need to be literally hundreds and hundreds of people per country who could read and write, and most importantly, who would want to read and write and that was just crazy talk.
