On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY.com! in 1982, Charlie Brooks Junior, a convicted murderer, was the first prisoner in the United States to be executed by lethal injection, at a prison in Huntsville, Texas. Before his lethal injection, it was noticed that he had not received a tetanus shot in the last fourteen years, and that was administered first, at a cost of $114. Charlie Brooks Junior protested the tetanus shot and was quoted as saying, “What?! Is the &#*@ing needle rusty?” The warden required the shot be given anyway, as he needed his paperwork to balance at the end of the year.
