American geeks and nerds begin watching it on PBS in the 1970s as a substitute for sex and social interaction. Tom Baker instantly became a hero to tens and tens of American teenagers and the ridiculously long neck scarf becomes a fad from July 23, 1978 to August 2, 1978. Doctor Who finally hits world wide recognition and watchability when Billie (Smoking Hot Bod) Piper becomes the Doctor’s ‘Companion’ Rose in 2005.
