On July 9, 2018, researcher, Dr. Nur Gueneli, discovered that bright pink might be the world’s oldest biological pigment. The ancient pink pigments were discovered in 1.1-billion-year-old marine shale rocks found deep beneath the Sahara Desert in the Taoudeni Basin of Mauritania, West Africa. The pigment was produced by cyanobacteria that was fossilized in the shale. This may have even given the oceans a pink tint because of the color of the chlorophyll the cyanobacteria produced. So, if the Earth had a gender reveal party, I guess it would be a girl.
