April 30, 2015

On April 30, 2015, NASA’s Messenger spacecraft crashed into the surface of Mercury. The space-probe sent back more than 270,000 pictures to earth during its journey. GEICO refused to pay on NASA’s accident claim. NASA claimed that Mercury just jumped right out in front of the probe and there was no way to avoid it. GEICO countered and said that something as large as a planet doesn’t just jump out in front of a probe like that. The probe had to either be steered into the planet, or someone had to misplace a decimal in their trajectory calculations. NASA quietly dropped their insurance claim and removed their neck-braces and canceled their appointments with the chiropractors. They then sent out a press release claiming they caused the probe to crash into Mercury on purpose as a means to gather additional data.
