October 4, 1927

On This Date in TWISTED-HISTORY! in 1927 the first actual work of carving began on the Mount Rushmore monument. Gutzom Borglum, the commissioned artist and his 400 workers began carving the faces of Presidents Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Ronald Reagan on the side of the mountain. When current President Coolidge telegraphed word to Borglum and demanded who the freaking hell Reagan was, Borglum replied in his thick Danish accent, “Don’t have a cow, Mr. President. Reagan, he’ll be very sexy loved, you’ll see.” Coolidge was having none of it and threatened to pull the funding unless Borglum went back to the original plan of Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson and Roosevelt. Borglum pouted for weeks but he finally agreed as he ran out of pot and munchies money.
