On THIS DATE IN TWISTED-HISTORY! in 1838 the Anti-Corn Law League was formed by Richard Cobden and John Bright. Their slogan of “Cream Corn Is For Infants!” was adopted by 8 and 9 year olds worldwide. Soon afterwards, Leagues and Associations against liver, brussel sprouts, and squash sprouted up during 1839 and 1840 and gained much headway at the dinner table. It wasn’t until health conscious mothers reasserted control by first using the “Starving Children In China” ploy, followed by the no dessert until you clean your plate strategy, and completing it with the finishing move of “You’ll be talking to your father when he gets home” that the Yucky Food movement was defeated. Although the Anti-Corn Law League was dissolved in 1846, it and the other anti-yucky food leagues would experience a resurgence every twenty years or so with the next generation of picky eaters to only be overcome by the better funded “No-Nonsense Mother Cartel”.
